Best field service software for small business
By Ray · Lode
The best field service software is the one that keeps a job moving from the first enquiry to the final payment. For a small firm, that usually means one clear job record, a usable schedule, quotes, invoices and a mobile view your crew will use.
There is no single best fit for every trade. Jobber and Housecall Pro suit many home-service teams. Tradify is a straightforward option for tradespeople who want quotes, jobs and accounts together. ServiceTitan and Simpro offer broader tools for more complex operations, with pricing by quote. FieldPulse is worth a look when you want to price manager and field-only seats differently.
This guide compares those choices by the work they help you run. Vendor features and prices can change. We checked the official pages on 23 October 2026. Prices below are US dollars where shown. Check the linked vendor page for your country, plan and current terms before you buy.
Quick picks
| Software | A good place to start if you need | Pricing on the vendor page |
|---|---|---|
| Jobber | Quotes, scheduling and job work in one system | Published plans. Price changes with team size and billing term. |
| Housecall Pro | A home-service workflow with booking and customer tools | Basic starts at $59 per month when billed annually; one user. |
| Tradify | Quotes, jobs, invoices and accounting sync for a trade business | Lite $47, Pro $51 and Plus $61 per user per month on the US page. |
| FieldPulse | Seat-based access for managers and field agents | Custom quote; pricing depends on team needs. |
| ServiceTitan | A larger trade operation that needs dispatch, pricebook and reporting | Per-technician pricing; request a quote. |
| Simpro | Project, maintenance, inventory and purchasing workflows | Tailored quote; setup fees may apply. |
The price line is only a starting point. Count every user, add-on, payment fee, setup cost and renewal term before comparing totals.
What small businesses need from field service software
Start with the work that slips today. A system should help you:
- Keep the customer, site, job notes, photos and messages together.
- Assign work and show the crew what to do next.
- Build a quote from the right labor and materials.
- Turn an accepted quote into a job without typing it all again.
- Record what happened in the field.
- Send an invoice and see whether it has been paid.
- Check actual job cost against the estimate.
You may not need every feature on day one. If your main problem is missed follow-up, a sales pipeline will matter more than fleet tracking. If you run repeat maintenance visits, asset history and recurring schedules may matter more than online booking.
Use a real job to test the system. Bring one recent enquiry, a quote, a schedule change, a supplier cost and the final invoice. Ask the vendor to show each step using your example.
The software, in plain terms
Jobber: a broad fit for small service teams
Jobber connects quoting, scheduling, job management, invoicing, payments and customer communication. Its public plans vary by team size and billing choice. The pricing page also lists extra-user charges on some plans, so price the full crew rather than the first seat alone.
Look closely if your work depends on recurring jobs, customer self-service, quote follow-up or routing. Ask which plan includes each feature you need. A solo price may not show what a five-person team will pay.
Best to test first if: you want a general service-business system and need office and field staff to share one job record.
Housecall Pro: home-service booking and customer workflow
Housecall Pro focuses on home-service businesses. Its product pages describe scheduling, dispatch, estimates, invoices, online booking and customer communication. The Essentials plan adds routes, flat-rate pricing and other team tools.
The official page lists Basic at $59 per month, billed annually, for one user. Essentials is $149 for five users. MAX is $299 for eight users. Monthly billing costs more. Extra users, add-ons, payment fees and tax can change the bill.
Best to test first if: you want a home-service workflow with customer booking and field tools. Check that the plan includes the features you expect.
Tradify: quotes and job records for trade businesses
Tradify puts job management, scheduling, quotes, invoicing and accounting sync in its plans. Its US pricing page lists Lite at $47, Pro at $51 and Plus at $61 per user each month. Custom pricing is available for larger teams. The page offers a 14-day trial.
Tradify can suit a small trade firm that wants clear per-user pricing. Check the differences between tiers against your needs for customer communications, files, reporting and user controls. Prices differ by region.
Best to test first if: your main need is to manage trade jobs, quotes and invoices without a complex rollout.
FieldPulse: separate office and field access
FieldPulse's current pricing page says prices are built around each team's needs and asks buyers to request a quote. It describes seat-based pricing. Check the quote for the current cost of manager and field-agent access before budgeting.
Best to test first if: you want to limit what field-only users can see while keeping schedule and customer controls with managers.
ServiceTitan: a larger operations suite
ServiceTitan lists dispatching, scheduling, call booking, invoicing and a pricebook in its packages. Higher packages add mobile estimates, payroll and reporting features. The company says it charges per technician but does not show dollar prices on its pricing page.
Ask for the full cost of the package, setup, training, integrations and contract. Also ask how the system handles your current customer and job records during a changeover.
Best to test first if: your trade operation needs a broad suite and you are ready to assess a sales-led quote.
Simpro: projects, maintenance and inventory
Simpro's pricing page lists quoting, estimating, scheduling, inventory, purchasing, field operations, invoicing and reporting in its base plan. It prices by quote and says an initial setup fee covers onboarding, training and data migration.
That breadth may fit firms with larger jobs, maintenance work or more involved purchasing. It can be more system than a one-crew business needs. Ask for a practical demo of your main workflow and an itemised setup quote.
Best to test first if: jobs involve projects, stock, purchase orders or planned maintenance across a team.
Compare the work, not the feature count
A feature list tells you what a product can do. Your test should show whether it handles your work cleanly.
| Your main problem | What to test |
|---|---|
| Quotes are sent late | Build and send a quote from a phone. Check follow-up rules and approval steps. |
| The schedule changes every day | Move a job, notify the right people and check what the field worker sees. |
| Costs are hard to track | Record labor, parts and subcontractors. Compare actual cost with the quote. |
| Customers ask for updates | Check booking, messages, approvals and job status from the customer side. |
| The team is growing | Price all seats and check permissions, reporting and training. |
| Work spans sites or multiple days | Check asset history, recurring visits, stock and project controls. |
Ask your crew to complete the field steps during the trial. A polished office demo does not prove that the mobile workflow fits a real site with poor signal, photos and interruptions.
How to choose in five steps
- Write down the job that causes the most rework. Use one actual job from enquiry to payment.
- List the people who need access. Include office staff, owners, technicians and subcontractors.
- Set a short must-have list. Keep it to the few steps you need the new system to improve first.
- Run the same test in two or three products. Use the same job, crew and questions each time.
- Compare the full first-year cost. Include seats, add-ons, payment fees, setup, data migration, training and contract terms.
Before you sign, ask how you can export your customer, job, quote and invoice records. Ask what happens if you leave. A system that is easy to start should also be clear about how you keep your records.
Where Lode fits
Field service software holds the job, schedule and money records. Lode joins up the people, systems and know-how around that work. It can prepare a next step from connected records and show the evidence beside it. A person approves an external action.
Lode is not a replacement for your job system, accounts software or dispatch board. Keep the tools that run the work. Lode is built for the gaps between them. That may be a quote to check, a supplier message that changes tomorrow's plan, or a job whose cost is moving away from the estimate.
To explore working alongside an existing system, see Lode with Jobber, Housecall Pro, Tradify, ServiceTitan or Simpro. These pages explain the surrounding workflow and access questions rather than ranking replacements.

Questions
What is the best field service software for a small business?
The best choice depends on your trade, team size and the work that needs attention. Compare Jobber, Housecall Pro and Tradify for common small-team workflows. Consider FieldPulse, ServiceTitan or Simpro when their specific seat model or wider operations tools match your needs.
Is there no-cost field service software?
The vendors in this guide promote paid plans or trials, not a permanent no-cost plan. Check each vendor's current offer and trial terms. A trial is not the same as a no-cost plan.
How much does field service software cost?
Prices vary by plan, team size, billing term and add-ons. Some vendors publish rates. ServiceTitan and Simpro ask you to request a quote. Compare the full annual cost, including setup and payment fees.
Can I use field service software on a phone?
The vendors in this guide describe mobile tools. Test the exact tasks your crew needs, such as opening job notes, adding photos, recording time and collecting a customer sign-off.
How do I switch software without losing job records?
Ask the vendor what data it can import, how old files and attachments are handled, and how you can export records later. Test the process with a small sample before moving your full history.
